Board care guide
Thank you for buying one of our totally unique chopping, serving and sharing boards. Each one is a true one off, and 100% handmade in our workshop. Our boards contain a combination of native, exotic and rare woods, and of course all come from sustainable sources.
Wood is a natural material and is constantly moving (we like to say it ‘breathes’). This means that if your board isn’t cared for properly, this ‘breathing’ may cause splits and warping. Here are some key tips to keep your board in top condition for years to come:
Do
Do wipe down your board after use with a warm, damp cloth.
Do dry your board thoroughly after washing it.
Do store your board in an upright position on a dry surface. This will prevent moisture
being trapped underneath it, and allow even air flow around it.
Do Not
Do not put your board in the dishwasher.
Do not soak your board. It will cause your board to swell, warp, and split.
Do not use any cleaning products on your board that contain bleach.
Do not place hot pots or pans on your board. It is wooden and will burn.
Do not store your board wet.
Do not be worried by boards becoming slightly ridgy at the joins, woods simply expand
at different rates. This is normal and not a fault.
Do not put your board in the dishwasher. (I know I’ve said this before, but it really is the
quickest way to ruin your board, so it’s worth mentioning twice).
Longterm Care
Occasionally your board may need a little extra attention to bring it back to its best. We recommend lightly sanding your board with sandpaper (using 120g-240g sandpaper in the direction of the grain), and re oiling using Osmo hardwax top oil, or any quality food safe chopping board oil. If it needs some major love, simply send it back to us and most of the time we can bring it back to new for you. We just charge a small labour fee for this service.
